Demi-Jour c1987

Demi-Jour by Houbigant: launched in 1987. The perfume was a resurrection of Houbigant's 1933 perfume of the same name. I am not sure if the notes are similar though.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is described as an Oriental Floral fragrance for women.  Its elegant top note is an inspired burst of flowers, fruits and spices with an exotic heart of ylang ylang, jasmine, rose, mimosa and tuberose. Rarest woods, mosses and Indian sandalwood give the fragrance its warmth and singularity.
  • Top notes: aldehydes, green notes, violet, mimosa and bergamot
  • Middle notes: tuberose, orris root, jasmine, heliotrope, ylang-ylang, lily-of-the-valley and rose
  • Base notes: Indian sandalwood, musk, oakmoss and cedar

Bottle:

An intensely romantic fragrance in a faceted lead crystal flacon inspired by a 19th century Houbigant original.

The 1987 version by Houbigant had an ancillary line which was quite expensive at the time, it included:
  • 150gr Dusting Powder, retailed for $71
  • 10ml Parfum, retailed for $165
  • 50ml Eau de Parfum Spray, retailed for $59
  • 100ml Eau de Parfum Spray, retailed for $89
  • 250ml Eau de Toilette, retailed for $120

Fate of the Fragrance:

Between 1994 and 1996 Houbigant entered into a series of licensing agreements with Dana Perfumes Corporation and Houbigant (1995) and the perfume was reformulated due to IFRA regulations concerning oakmoss and other ingredients. Many people report that the fragrance under the Dana name does not smell as it did when it was sold under the Houbigant name.

Discontinued, date unknown.

  1. Hi, there! I recently acquired a bottle of the vintage (1933) version of Demi Jour eau de cologne. I am afraid to open it....partly because I know that it will devalue it for collectors. So, I guess my question is...do you know if there is any demand for this vintage version? Thank you!!!

  2. I LOVED Houbigant Demi Jour. I have looked for years for something that smells like it and I have had no luck at all. I was so sad when the company was sold because it was not the same and it did not stay on as well. Please Please Please make it again like Houbigant did. It would be a money maker. Now a days all of the perfumes smell alike and nothing is as fresh as Demi Jour It was and still is my favorite fragrance and I miss smelling really wonderful every day. Nothing is as good and Demi Jour
