Fernand Javal was President of the Fragrance Houbigant, becoming co-partner Paul Parquet, who had inherited from his father the Perfumery. He was also Mayor and benefactor of the city of Livry-sur-Seine.
The Javal were a Jewish family from Alsace, major industrialists, traders and bankers firmly established for several generations and Paris in Europe, which has experienced some upward mobility from the early nineteenth century
The family name was originally Jacob and Javal was changed by decree of 20 July 1808.

Emmanuel, as shown in a cartoon, was a tailor. Emmanuel married in Fontainebleau in 1836 with the daughter of a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish community of this city: Moses Metzger. Moses Levy Brunette Metzger and were married in Fontainebleau in 1818 and Lucile was born there in 1819. Emmanuel and Lucile had two sons: Alfred Javal (1844-1912 or 1848-1921) and Albert 1847-1931).

- Alfred Javal, eldest son of Emmanuel, was the owner of Parfums Houbigant as the Javal-Parquet, Perfumers, 19, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris. He married a Dreyfus then Rose Otterbourg and had Fernand, Andrée and Alice.
- It seems that after the second world war Fernand Javal has attended Zionist circles, there met his great-aunt by marriage, Lily Jean-Javal.
