Au Matin by Houbigant c1923

Au Matin by Houbigant: launched in 1923, in USA in 1929. Created by Paul Schving and Raymond Kling.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral fragrance for women with aldehydes, fresh green notes, daffodil, carnation and other flowers.
  • Top notes: daffodil, aldehydes, green notes
  • Middle notes: carnation, floral notes
  • Base notes:

Collier's, 1929:
"If you would experience that deep, inner satisfaction that accompanies the gift intelligently chosen and gratefully received — give Houbigant Perfumes. Au Matin — ecstatic fragrance of the French modernes — breath of dawn's awakening flowers— latest creation of Houbigant — favoured in critical Paris. $10 the Modele Original. $18 the Grand Flacon. $20 the Grand Flacon with Atomizer.."

Theatre Magazine, 1930:
"Au Matin - The sublime fragrance of the early hours ...when flowers unfold to the sun... achieves a rare and exquisite kinship in this new parfum and this poudre."

The New Yorker, 1933:
" AU MATIN— "Dawn," the freshness and fragrance of a Spring morning — $5.50 to $22.50.


The crystal perfume bottle was created by Cristal Nancy. the box and perfume label was done in shades of green and gold.

Fashions of the Hour, 1930:
"A delicate Houbigant perfume in a one-ounce crystal bottle with a gold stopper. Quelques Fleurs, Bois Dormant or Au Matin scent, $2.50"
Drug Topics Redbook, 1941:

Fate of the Fragrance:

Discontinued, date unknown, was still being sold in 1942.
