Parfum d' Argeville by Houbigant c1913

Fragrance Composition:


So what does it smell like? It was a composite floral fragrance for women with woody and amber undertones. I have no published notes for this fragrance. I would need a perfume sample, if you have one, please let me know.
  • Top notes:
  • Middle notes: flowers
  • Base notes: ambergris, sandalwood, patchouli

Bottles:


The crystal flacon created for this perfume was manufactured by Baccarat, a 12-sided, Apothecary Style bottle decorated with a gilded pastoral scene. The perfume extract sold for $15 in 1920. What cost $15.00 in 1920 would cost $359.00 in 2014.

These style bottles were discontinued by 1935 in favor of less expensive and more simpler styles.





Theatre Magazine, 1919:
"Then for a society woman of very exquisite taste, she chose “ Parfum d' Argeville," a composite flower odor, with an adorable little etching in gold on one side of its crystal bottle."

Advertising & Selling, 1931:
"Houbigant, their Parfum d'Argeville presents a courtly scene delicately etched in gold directly on the the traditional prescription bottle, last relic of the old- fashioned pharmacy, may soon disappear."






Fate of the Fragrance:


Discontinued after 1935.
